UST tops electrical eng'g board
14 September 2012, 3:17 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY was again declared the lone top-performing school in the September 2012 examinations for electrical engineers, with two Thomasians entering the Top 10 list.
Data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed UST posted a passing rate of 87.50 percent, with 56 out of 64 Thomasian examinees making the cut. This was, however, lower than last year’s 90 percent, in which 63 passed out of 70 examinees.
Of the 63 first-time takers, 56 passed the licensure exam, PRC data showed.
Thomasians Aldrick Arceo (89.60 percent) and Airalynne Torres (89.45 percent) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
Last year, the University was also the only top-performing school, but no Thomasian landed on the Top 10.
This year’s national passing rate went down to 53.24 percent, with 1,569 out of 2,947 examinees making the cut. Last year’s national passing rate was 58.02 percent. Cez Mariela Teresa G. Verzosa

03 October 2012, 7:29 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY ranked sixth among top-performing schools in the recent mechanical engineering licensure examination, data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.
UST got a passing rate of 84.26 percent, with 91 out of 108 examinees making the cut. This was higher than last year’s 80.25 percent, when 65 out of 81 examinees passed the exam.
Like the previous year, no Thomasian entered the Top 10 list. UST was the fifth top-performing school last year.
The national passing rate rose to 69.86 percent, as 2,026 examinees out of 2,900 passed. Last year, the passing rate was 67.09 percent, wherein 1,868 out of 2,513 examinees passed.
UST placed five notches behind this year’s top-performing school Batangas State University, which posted a 97.73-percent passing rate. The Batangas school had 86 passers out of 88 examinees passed.
Other top-performing schools were Polytechnic University of the Philippines (91.04 percent), Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) – Visayas (89.19 percent), Saint Louis University (87.50 percent), and TUP – Manila (85.07 percent).
To be declared a top-performing school, the rules require at least 50 examinees and an 80-percent passing rate. Cez Mariela Teresa G. Verzosa

UST posts 62.73-percent passing rate in electronics eng'g exams
25 October 2012, 12:31 a.m. - UST recorded a lower passing rate in the recent licensure exams for electronics engineers.
From 64.58 percent last year, the passing rate slipped to 62.73 percent this year, with 101 successful Thomasian examinees out of 161, data from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.
First-time UST takers posted a 62.99-percent passing rate, as 94 out of 154 who took the exam passed. This was down from last year’s 65.56 percent.
Former Varsitarian science and technology writer Jan Eva Mari de Vera was among those who hurdled the licensure exams.
The national passing rate improved to 51.57 percent -- with 2,508 successful examinees out of 4,863 -- from 36.87 percent last year. Cez Mariela Teresa G. Verzosa

UST improves standing in civil eng'g exams
28 November 2012, 11:18 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY bounced back to second place in the roster of top-performing schools in the civil engineering board exams this year, posting a passing rate of 87.74 percent.
A total of 136 passed out of 155 Thomasian examinees, data from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.
UST trailed behind University of the Philippines-Diliman, which got a 97.65-percent passing rate. Last year, UST dropped out of the list of top-performing schools with its passing rate dipping to 79.57 percent.
However, no Thomasian entered the top 10 list this time, unlike last year when two Thomasians grabbed the sixth and 10th places.
Meanwhile, this year’s national passing rate went up to 41.41 percent as 2,380 out of 5,747 examinees made the cut. Last year, 1,770 out of the 5,163 passed the exam, equivalent to a 34.28-percent passing rate. Cez Mariela Teresa G. Verzosa

Thomasians in top 10 list of chem eng'g exams
04 December 2012, 4:17 p.m. - TWO THOMASIANS barged into the top 10 of the recent licensure examination for chemical engineers, but the University failed to be named as a top-performing school.
Leading the new batch of Thomasian engineers are Daryl Carillo, who scored 80.80 percent, and Jerome Magpayo, who got an 80.70-percent mark. Carillo and Magpayo placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
The University improved its passing rate to 60.50 percent, as 72 out of 119 Thomasian examinees passed. This was a few notches up from last year’s 59.74 percent, wherein 46 out of the 77 examinees passed the exam.
UST did not qualify as a top-performing school as it did not meet the requirement of the Professional Regulation Commission of a passing rate of at least 80 percent.
Meanwhile, the national passing rate went up to 54.83 percent as 426 out of 777 examinees made the cut. Last year, 301 out of 638 examinees passed the exam, equivalent to a 47.17-percent passing rate. Cez Mariela Teresa G. Verzosa

UST improves in electrical eng'g exams
13 September 2013, 3:16 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY improved its passing rate in the recent licensure examinations for electrical engineers, but failed to maintain its title as the top-performing school.
UST posted a 96.49-percent passing rate with 55 passers out of 57 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed. This was significantly higher than last year’s 87.50 percent, wherein 56 out of 64 examinees made the cut.
Despite the improvement, the University was downgraded to second top-performing school.
Only one Thomasian made it to the top 10 list of passers. Leading the new batch of Thomasian electrical engineers is seventh placer Anthony John Crisostomo, who scored 88.70 percent. Last year, two Thomasians entered the top 10.
UST trailed behind Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, University of Batangas, and University of the Phlippines-Los Baños, all of which recorded 100-percent passing rates and were named top-performing schools.
The national passing rate inched up to 53.64 percent, with 1,643 passers out of 3,063 examinees, from last year’s 53.24 percent equivalent to 1,569 passers out of 2,947 examinees. Lord Bien G. Lelay

25 September 2013, 10:44 p.m. - UST's passing rate slid in the recent licensure examination for mechanical engineers, and only one Thomasian broke into the top 10 list.
The University recorded a 75.21-percent passing rate in the Sept. 22-23 exams, with 91 out of 121 examinees making the cut, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed. This was lower than last year’s 84.26 percent, which was equivalent to 91 passers out of 108 examinees.
The University also failed to enter the list of top-performing schools. Last year, UST placed sixth on the list.
Thomasian Stephen Macalinga shared the eighth spot with Edmar Elca of Southern Luzon State University-Lucban.
Batangas State University was named this year's top-performing school after recording a 100-percent passing rate. Other top-performing schools were University of the Philippines-Diliman, Saint Louis Univesity, Bicol University-Legazpi, Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas, Bataan Peninsula State University-Balanga, and Technological University of the Philippines-Manila.
The PRC requires at least 50 examinees and an 80-percent passing rate to be declared a top-performing school.

23 November 2013, 8:14 p.m. - UST's passing rate slid in the recent chemical engineer licensure examinations, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.
The University recorded a 58.97-percent passing rate as 69 out of 117 Thomasian examinees made the cut. This was lower than last year’s 60.50 percent, in which 72 passed out of 119 examinees.
There were no Thomasians in the top 10. Last year, two UST graduates topped the exams.
The University of the Philippines-Diliman emerged as the only top-performing school, recording a 95.95-percent passing rate equivalent to 71 passers out of 74 examinees. The PRC requires at least an 80-percent passing rate and a minimum of 50 examinees to be declared a top-performing school.
The national passing rate rose to 58.31 percent with 428 passers out of 734 examinees, up from last year’s 54.83 percent equivalent to 426 passers out of 777 examinees. Lord Bien G. Lelay

Thomasian tops civil eng'g boards
28 November 2013, 1:20 p.m. - A THOMASIAN topped the recent licensure examinations for civil engineers, while two other UST alumni made it to the top 10 list.
Topnotcher Paul Marion Demapelis, who scored 96.90 percent, led 179 successful Thomasian examinees. A total of 195 UST graduates took the exams this year.
UST remained as the second top-performing school after posting a 91.79-percent passing rate, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was better than last year’s 87.74 percent, equivalent to 136 passers out of 155 examinees.
University of the Philippines-Diliman remained the top-performing school with a 92.39-percent passing rate, or 85 passers out of 92 examinees.
Thomasian Kristoffer Dave Tabong tied for third place with Kimuel Suyat of Holy Angel University, with identical scores of 96.50 percent. Randolph Camaclang also shared the ninth spot with Henmark Pichay of New Era University, with identical scores of 95.30 percent.
Last year, no Thomasian landed in the top 10.
This year’s national passing rate went up to 48.12 percent as 3,168 out of 6,584 examinees passed the test. In 2012, the national passing rate stood at 41.41 percent, equivalent to 2,380 passers out of 5,747 examinees. Lord Bien G. Lelay

19 December 2013, 6:54 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY slid in the recent licensure exams for electronics engineers, but three Thomasians broke into the top 10 list of passers.
UST's passing rate dipped to 55.86 percent from last year's 62.73 percent. Eighty-one out of 145 Thomasian examinees passed the test, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.
Leading the new batch of Thomasian electronics engineers is second-placer Kevin Tolentino (87.80 percent). Thomasians Joseph Christian Agreda and Neil Ross Vera were tied at ninth place after posting identical scores of 85.90 percent.
Jan Paolo Go of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas led this year's topnotchers with a grade of 88.9 percent.
The University of the Philippines-Diliman was named the only top-performing school for this year after getting a 96.67-percent passing rate, or 29 passers out of 30 examinees. PRC requires an 80-percent passing rate with 30 or more examinees to be declared a top-performing school.
