UST ranks fifth in Mechanical Eng'g boards
Oct. 4, 8:28 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY placed fifth among top-performing schools in the recent mechanical engineering licensure examination and emerged as the only private institution to place in the said list.
UST?s passing rate went up to 80.25 percent with 65 passers out of 81 examinees compared to last year?s 72.46 percent with 50 out of 69 passers. UST failed to be considered a top-performing school last year.
The national passing rate slightly went up to 67.09 percent with 1,686 passers out of 2,513 examinees, from last year?s 66.79 percent with 1594 passers out of 2387 examinees.
Like what happened in the September 2010 boards, no Thomasian managed to be in the top 10 list this year.
State-run University of the Philippines-Diliman is this year?s top-performing school with 96.23 percent, while Batangas State University (96.15 percent), Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (86.90 percent), and Technological University of the Philippines-Manila (84.91 percent) placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The Professional Regulation Commission requires at least of 50 examinees and 80-percent passing rate for a school to be considered a top-performing school. Reden D. Madrid

Santo Tomas improves in electronics engineering board exam
Nov. 4, 11:22 p.m. - UST RECOVERED in the recent electronics engineering licensure examination, with 64.58 percent of the Thomasian examinees passing the test.
While this was a substantial improvement from the lowly 11.11-percent passing rate last year, UST failed to be renamed top-performing school.
This year, there were 62 passers out of 96 Thomasian examinees. Last year, only 14 out of 126 examinees from UST passed the exam.
Like last year, no Thomasian entered the top 10 list.
The Technological University of the Philippines in Visayas, with 54 passers out of 65 examinees or an 83.08-percent passing rate, topped this year’s board exam and was the only top-performing school named by the Professional Regulation Commission.
In 2008 and 2009, UST was the top-performing school in the electronics engineering boards. Reden D. MadridVarsitarian

UST posts higher passing rate in chemical eng'g boards
Nov. 18, 11:38 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY improved in the November 2011 chemical engineer licensure examination, but still failed to be named a top-performing school.
UST recorded a 59.74-percent passing rate with 46 passers out of 77 examinees, which was higher than last year’s 56.10 percent or 46 passers out of 82 examinees. UST’s performance this year was also better than its 42-percent passing rate in 2009 when only 19 passed out of 45 examinees.
No Thomasian has entered the Top 10 list of passers since 2007.
The University of the Philippines-Diliman, the only school that met the requirement set by the Professional Regulation Commission of having at least 80-percent passing rate and a minimum number of 50 examinees, was declared the top-performing school.
It had an 84.34-percent passing rate, with 70 out of 83 examinees making the cut.
The University of San Carlos posted an 81.25-percent passing rate (13 passers out of 16 examinees), the University of Saint La Salle got a 75-percent passing rate (15 out of 20), and the University of the Philippines-Los Baños had a 71.05-percent passing rate (27 out of 38).
Trailing behind UST were Mapua Institute of Technology with a 16.22-percent passing rate (6 out of 37), De La Salle University-Manila with 41.18 percent (7 out of 17), Saint Louis University with 32.43 percent (12 out of 37), and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology with 47.06 percent passing mark.
The national passing rate, meanwhile, went down to 47.17 percent or 301 passers out of 638 examinees. This year’s result was lower than last year’s 59.28 percent. Reden D. Madrid

Passing rate in civil eng'g board down
Nov. 23, 9:41 p.m. - TWO THOMASIANS entered the Top 10 list of passers in the recent civil engineering board exams, but UST failed to maintain its standing as a top-performing school.
The Faculty of Engineering's 2011 class valedictorian and magna cum laude Rajiv Eldon Abdullah placed sixth in the exam with a score of 96.30 percent, while Loreto Paz placed 10th (94.90 percent).
The University, which was declared the second top-performing school last year, missed this year’s list of top-performing schools by only one percentage point. UST this year recorded a 79.57-percent passing rate, lower than last year’s 83.96 percent.
Under rules set by the Professional Regulation Commission, a school must have at least an 80-percent passing rate and a minimum 50 examinees to make it to the elite list.
Of the 93 Thomasian examinees, 74 passed the exam. Last year, 89 out of 106 Thomasians made the cut.
University of the Philippines-Diliman, which had a passing rate of 96 percent, was again declared the top-performing school. It was the only school on the list.
The national passing rate slid to 34.28 percent with 1,770 passers out of 5,163 examinees, from last year’s 40.57 percent wherein 2,040 passed out of 5,028 examinees. Reden D. Madrid

UST slips in civil eng'g boards
May 11, 2012, 12:18 p.m.: THE UNIVERSITY'S passing rate slid in the "off-season" licensure examination for civil engineers, with no Thomasian entering the top 10 list.
UST got a 68.97-percent passing rate, with 20 of 29 examinees passing the test. This was lower than last year's 72 percent, wherein 18 passed out of 25 examinees.
Of the 20 successful examinees from UST, nine were first-time takers while 11 were repeaters.
The national passing rate also went down to 34.07 percent, with only 1,130 out of 3,317 passing the exam. Last year's national passing rate was 38.34 percent, with 1,195 of 3,117 examinees passing the test. Reden D. Madrid
